Danny Whitaker's second-half strike kept Macclesfield's promotion charge on track as they claimed a 1-0 Vanarama Conference victory over mid-table Torquay at Moss Rose.

Macclesfield made much the better start and Paul Turnbull and Chris Holroyd went close as they kept the Gulls on the back foot.
The hosts continued to pile forward and Malachi Lavelle-Moore had a golden opportunity from Holroyd's cross but sent his header straight at Martin Rice.
Holroyd then got on the end of Turnbull's free-kick late in the half for what he thought was the opening goal but the assistant referee had his flag raised for offside.
But the home faithful were on their feet 11 minutes into the second half when they finally took a deserved lead.
The Torquay defence failed to deal with a cross into the box and Holroyd's shot was only half-cleared to Whitaker who fired home from just inside the box.
It took a fantastic save from Rhys Taylor to preserve the victory as he got his fingers to Luke Young's 80th-minute free-kick to turn it over the bar.
