Roth, star of Quentin Tarantino's breakout hit Reservoir Dogs, played Blatter in the 2014 film 'United Passions', an unashamed puff piece about the organisation which bombed at the box office.
And it turns out that he was just as sceptical about the project as anyone else, as he revealed in an "Ask Me Anything" Q&A session on Reddit - admitting that he has never even watched the final film.
"The film is awful (can't say that because I haven't seen it)," he wrote.
"I hated doing it, it was the wrong film but for the right reasons. I had two kids in college so I had to make a decision...
"It's a hard road, being in something you don't want to do, but I'm glad I did it for my family."
Rather than being lambasted for admitting that he had been a movie mercenary, Reddit users were delighted at Roth's openness about his motivation.
"Huge respect to you Sir. I'd would never expect an elite actor like yourself being dead honest about this," wrote 'Azrael_'. "I think it is just human to do anything possible to provide for your family. I know I would have done it in a heartbeat if I would have been in your position."
Another user, 'thebeginningistheend' had an even pithier way of looking at it: "Better that money ended up in your pocket instead of Sepp Blatter and Jack Warner's."
