Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton says members of his Mercedes team were “held up at gun point”, with shots being fired, as they left the Interlagos track on Friday night.
F1 is in Sao Paulo, Brazil, for the penultimate race of the 2017 season, with Hamilton having already been crowned champion for the fourth time in his career.
The first and second practice sessions took place on Friday, with Hamilton topping the timesheets in both, but members of his team had a scare later in the evening as they left the track.
Mercedes then confirmed the incident.
“We can confirm that a team minibus was robbed at gunpoint last night leaving the circuit,” a spokesman said. “Valuables were stolen but most importantly everybody is safe and uninjured.”
