Furyk was already one of a handful of players who had managed rounds of 59 on the top tier tour in American golf.
But on Sunday he went one better, hitting every fairway and every green en route to his magnificent round of golf on the 6,841-yard, par 70 course.
"Wonderful day," Furyk told PGATour.com. "After shooting two over par yesterday, being a little confused with my game, that was the farthest thing from my imagination going out this morning but got off to a great start and got in a great rhythm and just loved the way I was hitting the ball today."
He made a hot start, completing the front nine in eight-under 27 thanks to six birdies, as well as an unlikely eagle at the par-four third, where he holed out from 135 yards.
The former world number two continued his surge around the turn, reeling off seven successive birdies from the sixth to the 12th hole.
He posted his score despite picking up only one birdie in the final six holes, a 23-footer at the 16th.

Amazingly, Furyk won't even win the tournament: he had been one over par and pretty much dead last after a bad round on Saturday, and his heroics only pulled him into fifth place as he finished four shots behind leader Daniel Berger, who has yet to tee off.
But it will still be a huge boost for Furyk - and will give him a great chance of making the Ryder Cup team as a wildcard.
Caddie Mike "Fluff" Cowan described the round as "basically flawless" and said they did not talk about the unfolding record.
"He made three of four fairly lengthy putts, hit it tight a bunch of times, it was easy going," Cowan told Golf Channel.
"He was playing flawless golf, driving it in every fairway, hitting a lot of great iron shots."
