PSG had won their opening four matches in Group A but met their match in a determined Kiel side, who were missing injured left-back Filip Jicha and playmaker Aron Palmarsson.
But even in the absence of the influential pair, Kiel proved too strong, with Domagoj Duvnjak and Marko Vujin starring with seven and six goals respectively.
Victory for Kiel was their fourth on the trot and put them level on eight points from five outings with PSG atop Group A.
Next weekend sees the return fixture between the two sides in Germany.
In the other games in the group, Naturhouse La Rioja took advantage of a weakened HC Metalurg side following recent departures to post a comfortable 31-27 win.
Barcelona, meanwhile, gained a degree of revenge over SG Flensburg-Handewitt with a 37-33 win in northern Germany.
Flensburg had beaten Barca after a penalty shoot-out in last year's semi-final but the Catalans hit back nearly six months down the track in a thrilling match at the Flens Arena.
The result allowed Barelona to keep pace with KIF Kolding Kobenhavn at the top of Group A. Both teams remain undefeated and on nine points, after four wins a draw so far.
Flensburg sit third in the pool, on six points.
There remain just two clubs with perfect records after five matches: Veszprem and KS Vive Tauron Kielce.
Vesprem recorded a narrow 24-23 away win at Vardar after staging a second-half fight-back at Skopje’s Jane Sandanski Arena.
The hosts appeared on course for all three points until the final 90 seconds ended with a converted penalty by Momir Ilic to stun the local crowd.
The Hungarians top Group with 10 points.
Kielce, meanwhile, lead the way with five wins from five in Group D after posting a 27-25 victory over Aalborg Handball in northern Denmark.
Krzysztof Lijewski scored six goals for the Poles and had it not been for a sterling performance in goal by Aalborg keeper Ole Erevik, the margin of victory could easily have been greater.
