Once action started, the Penguins lost center Evgeni Malkin due to injury less than two minutes into the game.
After the game, which the Penguins lost, coach Mike Johnston disclosed that Crosby felt ill after warmups and that Malkin suffered an injury and could not come back.
"They're both in the trainer's room so we'll get a better evaluation as to whether we think they might be able to play tomorrow or not," Johnston said.
Malkin was hit by Boston center Chris Kelly early in the game with a bone-jarring check and stayed down on the ice for several minutes with an apparent lower-body injury.
Malkin went to the Penguins' locker room but returned to the ice late in the first for a few more shifts. He did not come back out for the start of the second period.
