Islanders 4, Hurricanes 3
Center and captain John Tavares scored less than four minutes into the game and the New York Islanders never trailed in beating the Carolina Hurricanes in an emotional final home opener at Nassau Coliseum.
The Islanders swept a home-and-home with the Hurricanes to get their last season on Long Island off to a rollicking start. The Islanders, who are 2-0-0 for the first time since 2007, begin playing in Brooklyn next October after 43 seasons at the Coliseum.

Coyotes 3, Kings 2 (overtime)
Arizona defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored on a power play with 14 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Coyotes to victory over the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings.
Left winger Tanner Pearson and center Jeff Carter scored for the Kings (0-1-1), who squandered a 2-0 lead 13 minutes into the game.

Canadiens 4, Flyers 3 (shootout)
Right winger P.A. Parenteau scored the only goal in a shootout and the Montreal Canadiens rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the third period to beat the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Canadiens are off to a 3-0 start to the season, while the Flyers (0-2-1) earned their first point of the campaign.

Capitals 4, Bruins 0
Alex Ovechkin scored his first two goals and Braden Holtby stopped 29 shots for his 12th career shutout as the Washington Capitals presented new coach Barry Trotz with his first win, a road victory over the Boston Bruins.
Ovechkin, coming off his fifth 50-goal season, scored on a power play and at even strength to give his team a two-goal lead in the first period.

Devils 5, Panthers 1
The New Jersey Devils scored four first-period goals to beat the Florida Panthers.
It is the first time the Devils (2-0-0) have ever started a season with two straight road wins, and they have done it mostly with offense, running up an 11-goal tally.

Blue Jackets 5, Rangers 2
Right winger Marko Dano scored the first goal of his NHL career as the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the visiting New York Rangers.
Dano's goal came in front of his father, who flew in from Slovakia for the game, as the Blue Jackets improved to 2-0-0, just the second time in franchise history they have started the season with successive victories.

Blues 4, Flames 1
Goalie Brian Elliott fell just a bit short of his 26th career shutout Saturday night as the St Louis Blues beat the Calgary Flames.
With 4:13 left, left winger Curtis Glencross scored a power play goal, but that was the only blemish for the Blues as they bounced back after losing their season opener.

Penguins 5, Maple Leafs 2
Centers Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin each scored a goal and added two assists as the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Right winger Patric Hornqvist, left winger Chris Kunitz and center Brandon Sutter also scored for the Penguins (2-0-0).

Ducks 3, Red Wings 2
Center Ryan Getzlaf's second goal of the game with 24 seconds left gave the Anaheim Ducks a road win over the Detroit Red Wings.
Getzlaf took the puck away from Detroit defenseman Niklas Kronwall and put a backhand shot under the crossbar past Detroit goaltender Jimmy Howard.

Senators 3, Lightning 2 (shootout)
Goaltender Robert Lehner finished with 38 saves and centers Kyle Turris and Mike Zibanejad scored in the shootout to lead the Ottawa Senators to a road victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Both goalies stood out in a game that featured 74 shots in regulation and multiple scoring opportunities.

Eric Nystrom scored a goal and had a pair of assists, and goalie Pekka Rinne stopped 17 shots as the Nashville Predators defeated the Dallas Stars.

Goaltender Darcy Kuemper had 30 saves for his second consecutive shutout and the Minnesota Wild beat the Colorado Avalanche.
Charlie Coyle, Zach Parise and Jason Zucker scored for the Wild, which dominated the home-and-home series with Colorado to start the season by outscoring the Avalanche 8-0 in the two games.

The Chicago Blackhawks squandered a two-goal lead in the first period but recovered with four goals in the third to beat the Buffalo Sabres, as Patrick Kane scored the go-ahead goal with 14:02 remaining.

Alex Stalock posted a second straight shutout and the San Jose Sharks beat the Winnipeg Jets.

Chris Higgins scored the lone goal in the shootout as the Vancouver Canucks twice overcame two-goal deficits to defeat the Edmonton Oilers.
