The 16-year-old's car was sent spinning into a wall with the impact fracturing his right hand after a collision with compatriot Thomas Preining down the pit straight on the 16th lap of the race.
As a result of the incident the race was red flagged by the officials with Schumacher classified as finishing in 10th place while Preining was handed a 30-second time penalty for causing the crash.
Schumacher had started in 16th place on the grid before working his way up to 10th prior to the crash and he was gutted about how the race finished up.
"I'm just simply super disappointed," Schumacher Jr told SID before he was taken to hospital for scans on his hand.
Schumacher's Australian team-mate at Van Amersfoort Racing, Joey Mawson, paid tribute to him after he won the third and final race of the weekend.
"This victory is for my team-mate Mick," he said. "I hope he makes a speedy recovery."

Schumacher had already suffered a crash in the weekend's opening race as he collided with two other cars braking for Turn 2. Despite having his car sent nose-first into the tyre barriers, he escaped unhurt.
"I had more momentum than the Mücke car ahead of me and was catching it up,” Schumacher said.
"I wanted to overtake on the inside, but he pulled in on me so that I had to steer left to get past. He braked unexpectedly early, and I hit him with my front right wing while trying to get out of the way.
"Unfortunately, I also struck the Jenzer car on my left. Both my front wheels came off, leaving me unable to do anything else."
Schumacher graduated from karting this season and clinched his first race win in April in what was only his third race.
