Russian rally driver Aleksey Lakyanuk has built a 2.4 second lead at auto24 Rally Estonia – despite being given a 10 second penalty for jumping the start on stage six.
Lakyanuk, who sits fourth in the ERC standings, got off to a good start during the opening stages on Friday night but only has a 0.3 second lead over LOTOS Rally Team Ford Fiesta R5 driver Kajetan Kajetanowicz.
Poland’s Kajetanowicz claimed the lead on stage seven after Lukyanuk was given a ten second time penalty for a jump start but the Russian was soon back out in front after winning stage eight.
Lukyanuk leads a strong charge from the Mitsubishi Lancers with Rainer Aus in third, Egon Kaur fifth and Siim Plangi sixth.
Leg two on Sunday contains six stages, with two 31.91km loops totalling 63.82kms.
