The 2014 edition will go through now traditional routes in Argentina and Chile with Bolivia becoming the 28th country to play a part in hosting the race.
Next year will be the 35th running of the event and the sixth since it moved from Africa to South American on safety grounds.
The race will run from January 5-18 – beginning in Rosario, Argentina before moving on to Bolivia and finishing in Valparaiso, Chile.
Race director Etienne Lavigne said: “It’ll be a very different Dakar 2014 than those that have come before because we’ll be visiting three countries: Argentina, Bolivia for the first time, and then Chile, a country already known by the Dakar, and reach Valparaiso, which will be the finishing point of the Dakar 2014.”
The host towns will be announced in April with the finished route not been confirmed until November.
