Up-and-coming Belgian star Luca Brecel made it through the first round of qualifying for the China Open with a 5-4 win over Andrew Pagett in Sheffield.

Brecel will now play Andy Hicks in the second qualifying round for the tournament, which takes place in Beijing from March 26 to April 1.

China's Tian Pengfei made it safely over the first hurdle in his attempts to play in his home tournament, thrashing Sam Baird 5-0.

Tian's compatriot Yu Delu also enjoyed an easy passage into the second qualifying round, beating Poland's Kacper Filipiak 5-0.
