Ronnie O'Sullivan produced some vintage form in completing a 4-2 win over Mark Allen at the European Masters last 16 in Bucharest.
Allen opened with a lovely run of 121, but O'Sullivan levelled at 1-1 with a 64.
The five-times world champion O'Sullivan repeated then made a 60 in the third frame as an early 55 from Allen was not enough.
Allen restored parity edging the fourth frame, but O'Sullivan won the final two frames with runs of 77 and 80 to secure his place in the quarter-finals.
“If that had been a boxing match they would have stopped it early and given Mark the result,” said O’Sullivan.
“I couldn’t believe I was 2-1 up because he was the better player. I am starting to control the cue ball better although it takes time as I hardly played for four months.
"I am enjoying competing and looking at every match as a good practice session, win or lose. My main thought is not about winning, it’s just to play as many matches as I can.”
He will face the winner of Thursday's last-16 match between Mark Davis and Liang Wenbo.
John Higgins won a final-frame joust 4-3 with Tom Ford while Alfie Burden saw off Ricky Walden by the same scoreline.
