The 19-year-old, who successfully fought cancer in 2009, wracked up four breaks of 50 or higher as he held on to beat Johal in three hours and 45 minutes.
Lisowski, in his first year on the professional tour, beat Mark Selby at the end of last year before pushing Higgins all the way in their Welsh Open first round clash last month.
Michael White, also 19, was another teenager who enjoyed a successful day as he thumped Matt Couch 10-3 on his way into the next round.
Welshman White, who beat Dominic Dale earlier in the year on his way to the main draw of the Shanghai Masters, will play Anthony Hamilton next.
Jamie Jones also progressed to the third round of qualifying, with a 10-6 victory over Simon Bedford.
The 23-year-old from Neath will next play Dave Harold for a place in the final round of qualifying.
