Trump lost the first frame at snooker's biggest invitational event involving the world's top 16 players before winning four straight frames to lead 4-1.
Scotsman Maguire ran in knocks of 92, 74 and 56 in restoring parity at 4-4, but 2011 World Championship finalist Trump kept his composure to win the final two frames as an error by 2005 UK champion Maguire enabled him to snag the 10th frame after a run of 60 had carried him 5-4 ahead.
"I just tried to stay calm," said Trump on the BBC. "I was very nervous at 4-4 because I've not had a good last few tournaments and my confidence was very low.
"For me, it's an amazing win. My game is attacking, but everything in my head was negative. My lack of form has put pressure on because I was used to going out there and expecting to play well.
"I've played every day over Christmas - that's the first time I've ever done that. I think that's what got me through in the end.

"I've always enjoyed myself off the table, but now I'm at an age when I don't enjoy going out as much. Now I can give snooker four or five years of complete dedication and see what happens."
Trump will face Neil Robertson or Marco Fu in the last eight.
Barry Hawkins split the first six frames with fellow Englishman Joe Perry, but bnreaks of 81 and 58 were pivotal in helping him complete a 6-3 win to seal his place against Mark Allen in the quarter-finals.
