Seo takes 500m title in Seoul

South Korea's Seo Yi Ra was the surprise winner of the men's 500m in Seoul on what was a highly successful short track speed skating World Cup event for the host nation.

The 22-year-old, a former world junior champion, crossed the line in a time of 41.436 seconds, ahead of Sjinkie Knegt of the Netherlands and Canada's Charles Hamelin.
It was the first points he had picked up over the distance at a World Cup event this year, competing predominantly over 1000m, but sits sixth in the overall standings.
Korea's Minjeong Choi extended her lead at the top of the World Cup standings in the women's 1500m as she took gold on home soil ahead of China's Yutong Han and fellow Korean Do Hee Noh.
Choi, who crossed the line in a time of 2:31.246 minutes, now has 33277 points with Han lying in second on 28240 and another Korean in Suk Hee Shim down in third on 24438.
Kexin Fan took gold in the women's 500m final as she beat Ji-Soo Jeon and Great Britain's Elise Christie to the gold in a time of 43.747 seconds. She leads the standings on 40000 points by some way from Jeon.
The Netherlands quartet of Daan Breeuwsma, Freek Van Der Wart, Knegt and Adwin Snellink triumphed in the men's 5000m relay, beating Canada and China into first.
While in the women's 3000m relay it was China who pipped home favourites and World Cup leaders Korea to the gold. China’s foursome of Fan, Han, Yue Lin and Hongshuang Li crossing the line in 4:16.782 minutes.
