Heather Watson was sent spinning out of the French Open by Svetlana Kuznetsova, who completed a comfortable 6-1 6-3 win in the second round at Roland Garros.
The 13th seed - winner of this tournament in 2009 - dominated the first set as Watson struggled to find any consistency.
And while there was a brief hint of a recovery early in the second set by the lone British women left at the tournament, Kuztensova's hitting was far too heavy for her unseeded oppponent to cope with in tumbling out in one hour and 12 minutes.
It was a disappointing way for Watson to lose with her performance levels never really reaching the heights required to trouble the Russian player.
Watson's serve was broken four times in the first set on her way to joining fellow Brits Johanna Konta, Laura Robson and Naomi Broady as early casualties.
The world number 56 improved the longer the match progressed, but had difficulty in retaining serve as Kuztensova's greater class and power continued to be the main theme of the contest.
It means Watson, 24, has yet to reach the third round at Roland Garros in six attempts.
