Coria did just enough on Wednesday to keep his hopes of a fourth consecutive final at the Monte Carlo Country Club alive, but his game was littered with double faults, something the former champion blamed on nerves.
"I was nervous and I was lacking confidence," Coria said. "Then at the end of the match I was serving better. But I know I must serve better, especially against Kiefer.
"It's been several months I have had this problem, although (on Wednesday) I played many double faults that I didn't do in the last month.
"But I'm very pleased that I was able to win that match with one shot going so poorly. It was very important to win that match.
"Now I feel relaxed, and I hope I won't make so many double-faults against Kiefer."
Even if Coria does find again his form from the service line, he knows his path to the final will be difficult, and a win against Kiefer would present a tough match-up with king of the clay Rafael Nadal.
"It's going to be difficult because if I win against Kiefer, then it will be Nadal.
"But if I win, it will be my fourth time in the quarterfinals in a row, so that's very good.
