Fourth seed Paolo Lorenzi became the oldest first-time winner on the ATP World Tour by beating Nikoloz Basilashvili at the Generali Open.
The Italian claimed a 6-3 6-4 victory in Kitzbuhel on Saturday as Basilashvili, having become the first Georgian player to reach an ATP World Tour final, fell short in his bid for his maiden title at this level.
At 34 and seven months old Lorenzi beats the record set by Victor Estrella Burgos in February 2015 in Quito for oldest first-time winner on the tour.
Lorenzi broke Basilashvili's serve in the first game and then once more at 5-3 to take the opening set.
He took a 3-1 lead in the second after breaking again but Basilashvili broke back before Lorenzi finished up with another break on his first match point.
