Edmund was within touching distance of the final, leading 4-2 in the second set, but the experienced Gasquet refused to surrender to his 21-year-old opponent and as the match wore on the Brit's energy levels dropped.
Gasquet grabbed the initiative and forced Edmund to serve to stay in the set but a double fault saw the Frenchman level and, after breaking to lead 3-1 in the decider, he never looked back and won in two hours and four minutes.
Gasquet will play Diego Schwartzman in the final after he also staged a comeback to topple home favourite and top seed David Goffin 7-5 2-6 7-5.
The Argentinian saved two match points with Goffin serving for a spot in the final at 5-4 in the decider. He then reeled off 10 of the last 11 points, breaking to love to seal the win and cause an upset.
At the If Stockholm Open, Jack Sock will play for his first title of the season on Sunday.
The 24-year-old American rallied, saving 10 of 12 break points, to beat Alexander Zverev 6-7 (7/4) 7-6 (7/4) 6-4 and will look to go one better than last year when he lost to Tomas Berdych at the same event.
It will not be easy, however, as Sock will face another top opponent in Juan Martin del Potro, who prevailed against second seed Grigor Dimitrov 6-4 7-5.
At the VTB Kremlin Cup, Fabio Fognini overcame Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-1 7-6 (7/2) to book his place in the final against Pablo Carreno Busta, who saw off Stephane Robert 6-3 7-6 (7/2).
