Borssen to retire after World Cup finals

The 28-year-old said the decision to hang up her skis was unrelated to her omission from the Swedish national team for the World Championships in Schladming.

"This is a decision that has grown over the last year and has nothing to do with the decision regarding the Swedish team at Schladming 2013," said Borssen, who was selected as a reserve only.

"Ski racing has taken a lot of my energy and over the last year I have seen my motivation decrease and that my focus is not any more sufficient. There is time for everything and when motivation begins to diminish it is a signal to call it quits.

"I still love skiing and have always had a good time but now it is time to move on."

Double Olympian Borssen has to date mounted the World Cup podium six times, including victory in Semmering in 2006 and a win in the Parallel Event in Moscow in November 2009.

She has been ranked in the top 15 in the world since 2006, with the exception of 2010, and boasts a career high of fourth.

She added: "Now I am going to focus on developing my company focused on life style, training and health. I am also looking forward to having more time with family and friends.

"Life will be very different as I have almost never stayed home during the winter during the last ten years and but I am excited about that."
