Brignone delivers 'brilliant demonstration of super-G supremacy' to top standings in Val d'Isere

Federica Brignone closed the gap on Mikaela Shiffrin at the top of the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup standings with super-G victory in Val d'Isere.
The Italian's impressive time of 1:21.58 left her 0.44 seconds clear of Norwegian Kajsa Vickhoff Lie, who took silver, with Brignone's fellow Italian Sofia Goggia in third.
Shiffrin, who missed Saturday's downhill, did not finish after missing a gate early on and Brignone took full advantage to claim a third World Cup win of the season.
The American remains the overall leader on 620 points but her advantage has been cut to 63 points with the 33-year-old Brignone leading the chasing pack.
Lie's silver represented her first Super-G podium for nearly three years while Goggia responded well following an early setback to claim bronze.
The final women's alpine World Cup event before Christmas takes place on Thursday, also in France, as the action moves to Courchevel.
