Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen triumphed in the giant slalom World Cup in Bansko but could not prevent Marcel Hirscher from claiming the season-long title.
Kristoffersen trailed the Austrian by 0.22 seconds after the opening run in Bulgaria but his second run of 1:11.70 minutes saw him take the gold medal by just 0.04 seconds.
Hirscher's second run of 1:11.96 was only the 12th fastest as he finished in the silver medal position ahead of France's Thomas Fanara, who pipped compatriot Alexis Pinturault to bronze.
It was Kristoffersen's 17th World Cup win but his first since he came out on top in a slalom in Kitzbuehel 13 months ago.
But Hirscher's second-place finish was enough to secure the overall giant slalom World Cup, extending his lead over Kristoffersen to an insurmountable 218 points with two races left.
Hirscher has now won the overall giant slalom World Cup title in five consecutive seasons and it's also his 19th career crystal globe – matching the men's record of Sweden's Ingemar Stenmark.
