French slalom racer Stephane Tissot will miss the rest of the Alpine skiing season after fracturing his left leg on Saturday, the French team said. He has already undergone an operation on the double tibia fracture and a full medical report is expected in
Tissot, 26, is France's top slalom racer this season and came fourth in the opening World Cup slalom last month in Levi, Finland.
He sustained the injury in a crash in an exhibition parallel slalom at Pila in Italy and was immediately taken to hosptal where - after the opinions of French medical staff - he was operated on with urgency.
France's team coach Thierry Meynet said afterwards:
"We are all terribly sad.
"OK we have seen much worse things before (alluding to the death of coach Severino Bottero in an accident last year), but after Jean-Pierre Vidal broke his arm in February this is another massive blow for Stephane, for the lads, for all of us."
