Lindsey Vonn was back to her pre-injury best as she led a first-ever American clean sweep of the podium in the second alpine skiing downhill race of the weekend at Lake Louise, Canada.
Vonn made her return from a knee injury to finish eighth in the downhill on Friday but a day later she clocked 1:50.48 minutes, just under half a second ahead of Stacey Cook with Julia Mancuso in third.
It was her first World Cup win since January 2013, taking her to 60 in total, and comes 12 months after she last competed, when she failed to finish a downhill event in Val d’Isere.
Friday’s winner Tina Maze of Slovenia came in eighth but still sits atop the overall World Cup standings on 320 points with Austrian duo Kathrin Zettel and Anna Fenninger second and third respectively – Vonn in tenth.
And at Beaver Creek, USA, Hannes Reichelt of Austria saw off World Cup leader Kjetil Jansrud of Norway in the second men’s Super G of the season.
Reichelt earned his first career victory on the Beaver Creek slopes in 2005 and his time of 1:12.78 minutes was enough to repeat that trick ahead of Jansrud with France’s Alexis Pinturault in third.
The Norwegian still holds a commanding lead in the overall standings however, accumulating 396 points with Italy’s Dominik Paris his nearest challenger on 205 points.
