The American was eyeing a medal on her comeback from serious injury, but overcommitted in the top half of the course and bailed out of her run in an attempt to avoid another serious crash.
The World Championships weren’t Vonn’s primary aim as she continues her remarkable recovery, but the former Olympic Champion had been hopeful of medaling in Switzerland.

The American has documented her comeback in an exclusive series with Eurosport, entitled Chasing History. The 32-year-old suffered a serious injury in November, breaking her arm before struggling to regain movement in her right hand after surgery.
Vonn’s highest-profile rival Lara Gut also missed out on gold, with Austrian Nicole Schmidhofer securing an unexpected victory.
