Dina Asher-Smith breaks national record at Diamond League in Oslo

The 22-year-old was narrowly beaten by Ivory Coast's Murielle Ahoure but her time of 10.92 beat her previous record of 10.99, set in 2015.

Chris O'Hare went one better in the 1500m, holding off USA's Robbie Andrews and Norway's own Jakob Ingebrigtsen to claim the top spot with a time of 3:35.96 before Asher-Smith stole the show.

"I'm really happy, it's been one of those things that my coaches and I and all of my team have been working on for so long," she said.

"I felt good and I knew that if I just put my race together right we could possibly be in PB territory today – and I did!

"There's still bits in the race where I wasn't happy but it's a process and hopefully I'm going to be getting a bit quicker as the season goes on.

"I knew that she'd won, because when you're racing you can tell, but I was so close to her that I knew I'd run a PB when I finished, so I was just really happy.

"Second with a 10.92 is great for me today. I'm in good shape but obviously I've got to keep working hard, you can never predict championship results.

"It's good progress, it gives me a good stepping stone and a good marker to see where we can go from that."

Having won the Westminster Mile only a few weeks back, O'Hare was not chosen for the Dream Mile in Oslo but believes that fuelled him to push for the win in the 1500m.

"I felt good and the pressure was off because I got the European Championships standard in Rome last week, but that's still a long way off.

"I've had a rough six months after a great indoor season, as I've been injured so it's been a tough road back.

"I wasn't invited into the Dream Mile so I wanted to prove myself and I did. I had to go in the last 150m and try to stay smooth."

Elsewhere, Adam Gemili ran a season's best of 20.21 in the 200m to finish fourth, his fastest time in two years, while Laura Muir finished fifth in the 800m with a time of 1:59.09.

Anyika Onuora finished seventh in the 400m with a season's best of 51.60.

Jake Wightman, who won the 1500m last year, finished ninth in the One Mile race, clocking 3:59.15.
