World Championships: Sha'Carri Richardson wins 100m gold with record time, Dina Asher-Smith comes eighth

Sha'Carri Richardson outdid Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to win 100m gold at the World Athletics Championships, with Dina Asher-Smith finishing eighth. Grant Holloway earned his third consecutive World Championship gold in the 110m hurdles, while Burkinabe’s Hugues Fabrice Zango took advantage of favourite Jaydon Hibbert’s absence to win triple jump gold.

American Sha'Carri Richardson ran the fastest 100m in World Athletics Championships history to win gold ahead of Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce.

Richardson completed the race in 10.65 seconds, taking 0.02 seconds off the previous best set by Fraser-Pryce last year.

Jamaican duo Jackson and Fraser-Pryce finished in second and third respectively.

Great Britain's Dina Asher-Smith could only manage an eighth-place finish after starting well but fading towards the end.

"I’m really not happy with that, I’m disappointed," Asher-Smith told Eurosport.

"I feel like I’m in the shape of my life so to come and run that I was very disappointed.

"I felt really good, normally when I feel good things just come like that, so I am very disappointed."

American Grant Holloway was victorious in the 110m final to win his third-straight world championship gold after previously winning in Eugene and Doha.

Holloway set a commanding time of 12.96 seconds to claim his third consecutive world title.

Burkina Faso’s Hugues Fabrice Zango won triple jump gold, going one better than he did when he won silver last year in Oregon.

Competition favourite and teenager Jaydon Hibbert was forced to drop out after pulling up in his first jump, paving the way for Zango to clinch his first world title.

Zango’s jump of 17.64m was enough for him to claim the top spot, while Cuban pair Lazaro Martinez and Cristian Napoles took silver and bronze respectively.

Sweden’s Daniel Stahl stole the show in a thrilling discus final.

Holloway seals hat-trick with third 110m hurdles world gold

Kristjan Ceh of Slovenia looked to have sealed victory with the penultimate throw with 70.02m which put him ahead of Olympic champion Stahl.

But Stahl had one last trick up his sleeve and produced a championship-record throw of 71.46m to win gold.
