LeBron James' son Bronny makes college debut after cardiac arrest in Trojans' defeat to Long Beach - ‘Proud of you kid’

It was a poignant day in the James family, as Bronny made his college debut for the University of Southern California Trojans against Long Beach on Sunday. He was on the receiving end of an 84-79 defeat, but his superstar father LeBron felt the result was of secondary importance and congratulated his son for this latest milestone. This comes after the LA Lakers won the NBA In-Season Tournament.

LeBron James’s son, Bronny, made his college debut for University of Southern California after recovering from a cardiac arrest.
The 19-year-old featured from the bench in the Trojans’ 84-79 defeat to Long Beach State, and was given the okay to make a return to basketball last month after being diagnosed with a congenital heart defect in July.
LeBron paid an emotional tribute to his son after the match, and watched on with his other children, Bryce Maximum and Zhuri.
He said: "Proud of you kid. Today you've given me more life."
Despite the defeat, Bronny made an impact from the bench after scoring four points, three rebounds and two assists in a 16-minute spell.
Speaking to journalists after the match, he said: "I just want to say I'm thankful for everything," before expressing his gratitude to the Mayo Clinic, his family, Trojans head coach Andy Enfield, along with his team-mates "during this hard time in my life".
Trojans head coach Enfield also added to the plaudits for James and praised the 19-year-old for his overall display.
"I thought Bronny played well," Enfield said.
"He defended at a high level. He guarded the quick ball-handlers on the other team pretty well.
"It was exciting for everybody to see him out there and I'm sure his family was the most excited."
It was also a memorable weekend as a whole for the James family, after LeBron was named MVP as the Los Angeles Lakers won the NBA's inaugural In-Season Tournament in Las Vegas, beating the Indiana Pacers.
Bronny was not the only son of a current or former NBA player to feature in the game, with DJ Rodman - son of Dennis Rodman - also in their ranks.
Meanwhile, Beach's line-up included Chayce Polynice, the son of Olden Polynice, who featured for the likes of the Seattle SuperSonics and Los Angeles Clippers during a lengthy NBA career.
