Sturla Holm Laegreid beats defending champion Johannes Thingnes Boe for 10km sprint victory

Sturla Holm Laegreid ousted defending champion and team-mate Johannes Thingnes Boe to win the IBU World Championships men's 10km sprint. Laegreid recovered his lead in the final kilometre to edge an exciting finish ahead of Boe by 3.5 seconds for first prize and a third individual medal in his career. Sturla Holm Laegreid stormed to victory in the IBU World Championships men's 10km sprint, beating defending champion and team-mate Johannes Thingnes Boe in Nove Mesto.
The Norwegian shot clean and recovered his lead in the final kilometre in a thrilling finish which saw him soar to a third career individual medal.
He crossed the line in a time of 25:23.9, 3.5 seconds ahead of Boe, with Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen completing a Norwegian clean sweep of the podium in third.
Laegreid said: "When I heard I was just behind him at the last timing point, I thought, 'Sturla, you have to dig for it. It is maybe your biggest chance to become a world champion in the sprint. This is the moment'.
"I just focused on the skiing, pushing, hitting every step and it was incredible as I was crossing the finish line."
Boe and Christiansen recorded one shooting penalty each as the latter finished 18.6 seconds back.
France's Eric Perrot finished fourth, 28.9 seconds behind, with the second-best result of his career.
