It was the 27-year-old's first-ever podium at World Cup level with the blue and yellow of home supporters perhaps giving him inspiration too, following his fourth place in the sprint event 24 hours earlier.
Norway's Johannes Thingnes Boe, with five penalties, took silver just over eight seconds back while France's Quentin Fillon Maillet completed the podium with his second bronze medal in as many days.
Elsewhere, Germany's Denise Herrmann powered to victory in the women's 10km pursuit, while Norway's Tiril Eckhoff outsprinted Germany's Laura Dahlmeier to narrowly snatch silver.
"It was the perfect day for me," said Herrmann.
"The conditions were really tough and windy, so I'm so pleased with my shooting. I love this venue, I had my first-ever victory here and the day was made even more perfect by having my team-mate on the podium too."
