Jackson's Olympic debut did not last long on Saturday as he and brakeman Dan Money were disqualified after a crash in the first heat of the two-man competition.

The controversial Whistler Sliding Centre track, the fastest in the world, has seen numerous crashes in training in both the women's and the men's competitions with fellow Brits Paula Walker and Kelly Thomas have also suffered a spill in training.

But Jackson, who will team up with Money, Henry Nwume and Allyn Condon in the four-man competition, believes there are reasons for optimism after finishing 18th and 12 in their two training runs on Tuesday.

"We're pretty satisfied with the progress we made. We didn't make a great start on the first run, but improved that a lot for the second," he said.

"It's about looking for the limits, and learning how best to manage the track, and that's what we're doing.

"The changes that have been made to the track are small, but they will probably make people happier so that's good. But at heart this is still a really challenging track. You won't change that."

Meanwhile former sprinter Condon, who will become the first Brit to compete at the Summer and the Winter Olympic since Marcus Adam eight years ago, revealed the quartet are ahead of schedule.

"I'm pleased with the way we got better on the second start," he said.

"We were aiming for five seconds flat, but we improved on that and did it in 4.94. We set a standard and beat it, which is what we have to keep doing."
