Tommy Fury has said “there is no doubt in my mind” that his brother Tyson will become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since 1999 with a win over Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday.
The unbeaten pair clash in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in one of the most hotly anticipated fights in boxing history, and the bout will be shown live on TNT Sports Box Office
The fight had initially been scheduled for February 17, before Fury had to withdraw due to a cut he sustained in training, but now the new date is upon us.
Fury comes into this encounter off the back of the worst performance of his career after a narrow victory over Francis Ngannou back in October, while Usyk’s last victory came against another Brit, Daniel Dubois, back in August last year.
Now both men go head-to-head with every heavyweight belt on the line, with the title of “undisputed” champion the cherry on top.
Speaking exclusively to TNT Sports at the pair’s open workouts, Tommy Fury, who himself most recently beat YouTuber KSI in a split-decision match-up in Manchester last October, said: “Everything’s on point with Tyson now.
“He’s in the best shape of his career and mentally he’s in the best place possible. He’s rested and ready for Saturday. He’s looking razor-sharp. There’s no doubt in my mind what happens on Saturday.
“All of us know that when Tyson is on his A game, he’s unbeatable. I know that he’s going to turn up on Saturday with his A game.
"All the way through camp and this week, he’s switched on like never before. He needs a challenge in front of him to get up for and rise to.
"These other fights previously he’s been expected to win easily and it’s a bit of a walk in the park. But here, there are mixed opinions and it’s something for him to get up for. When he has that in front of him, he rises to the best of himself.
“Tyson is the reason why our family name is up in lights and he is the reason why we’ve done what we’ve done. He’s paved the way for all of us, and he’s the man leading us forward. Our name is already in the history book.
"Every belt he’s fighting for on Saturday is already in the cabinet; he’s already been there and done it before. It’s just another challenge he has to rise to, but it’s in the history books and all thanks to him.”
