The Nottingham-based boxer has not fought in his hometown since October 2009 when he retained his WBC belt against Andre Dirrell in the first fight of the Super Six series.
Froch managed to reach the final of that series, but lost to Andre Ward last December in Atlantic City, ceding his WBC title with it.
Romanian Bute, who now lives and fights in Canada, has agreed to come to the UK for the bout.
He declined to participate in the Super Six, and has held the IBF title since October 2007.
Froch, 34, said he was looking forward to winning a world title for the third time in front of a home crowd by beating the undefeated Bute.
"It's a dream come true to get this opportunity to become a three-time world champion in my hometown of Nottingham," said Froch, who won his first world title in the city when he defeated Jean Pascal in 2008.
"The Super Six was an incredible journey for me but I missed fighting in the UK and it was important that Eddie and I made that happen and for it to be for a world title is the icing on the cake. I'm ready to go to war all over again."
Bute said: "It's my goal to fight the best boxers in super middleweight division. Carl Froch belongs in the elite of the super middleweight division and it will be a great fight.”
