The first undisputed heavyweight championship boxing match-up since 1999 is attracting attention from all corners of the sporting world as Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk prepare to go head-to-head in Riyadh this weekend.
Tommy Fury says his brother is “unbeatable” if he is on his “A game”, while promoter Eddie Hearn has warned that “cold as they come” Usyk can never be ruled out.
Hearn also revealed to TNT Sports that he has changed his mind several times about how the fight will play out and the style each man will adopt.
The 'Ring of Fire' event will take place on Saturday, May 18 and will be broadcast live on TNT Sports Box Office, with undercard coverage starting from 15:00 BST. The ring walks for the main event are expected to take place around 23:00.
Fellow promoter George Warren is firmly in the Fury camp and - even though the Brit is expected to weigh in at a career-lightest weight - thinks he will hold a physical advantage.
“Oleksandr Usyk is a fantastic champion," Warren told TNT Sports. "He’s doing tremendous things at heavyweight but he’s a naturally smaller guy.
"I don’t see anything that Usyk does that Tyson isn’t able to deal with and I think there’s a lot that Tyson is able to do that Usyk may not be able to deal with. I might be wrong.
“That’s why this fight is so compelling and so intriguing.”
Fury and Usyk both remain undefeated in their careers, but having watched Fury’s trilogy fights against Deontay Wilder, Warren thinks the self-proclaimed Gypsy King has the edge in experience.
The first meeting of Fury and Wilder ended in a controversial draw in 2018, before Fury won the rematch by way of a technical knockout in the seventh round.
Wilder then activated a clause for the pair to meet again and after many postponements they clashed to complete the trilogy in Las Vegas in 2021. Fury was on the canvas twice in round four, but took victory with a knockout in the 11th round.
“I’ve witnessed what Tyson’s been able to do,” Warren said.
“I’ve witnessed him be able to get up off the canvas when people thought he was knocked out and come back and win fights, despite that being called a draw against Wilder.
“He came back in that second fight, was destructive in that, came back in that third fight - up and downer but got the better of him.
“The guy is just built differently and, for me, he’ll find a way to win and he’ll do it in style.”
