In a WBA super bantamweight eliminator at Hua Mark Indoor Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym boxed brilliantly and scored two knockdowns before posting a TKO victory over Somsak Sithchatchawal at 0:37 of round eleven. Kratingdaenggym is now next in line to fight reigning WBA 122 lbs. champion Celestino Caballero.
Kratingdaenggym (33-1, 23 KOs) is a former interim WBA bantamweight champion. The 27-year-old Thailander has also held numerous regional titles including PABA and WBA Fedelatin 118 & 122 lbs. belts.
The 30-year-old Sithchatchawal (56-3-1 44 KOs), a southpaw from Lampang, Thailand, was weakened and consequently unable to make the weight limit for the eliminator.
Sithchatchawal won the same title with a dramatic knockout over Mahyar Monshipour in March 2006 in France. In Sithchatchawal’s first defense six months later in Thailand versus current champion Caballero (28-2, 19 KOs) of Panama, the Thai fighter was TKO’d in three rounds.
