New IBO super bantamweight champion Liam Davies looked ahead to a "massive 2024" after he clinched the vacant belt on the Magnificent Seven card in Birmingham against Mexico's Erik Robles. The victory moves him up the rankings in pursuit of a fight with undisputed four-belt champion, Japan's Naoya Inoue, and Frank Warren hailed his fighter as "world class".

Liam Davies looked forward to a “massive 2024” as Frank Warren praised a “world-class” win over Erik Robles to win the IBO super bantamweight championship.
The 27-year-old fighter took on Robles, who previously beat Lee McGregor for the same belt last year, with the strap vacant once more, and produced a frenetic knockout performance on the Magnificent 7 card - live on TNT Sports.
That could see Davies move into contention for a title fight against the undisputed champion, Japanese legend Naoya Inoue, widely regarded as one of the finest pound-for-pound boxers at the moment.
Speaking on TNT Sports after his win, Davies reflected on his victory, before looking ahead.
He said: “It’s a blessing, man. I had my debut in Birmingham. I’ve just become world champion, my first of many world titles, in Birmingham.
“I’ve had a great fanbase from the start. You can see out there, they’re out and loud, so I want to say thank you for all travelling down.”
Davies paid tribute to his opponent, noting that he had been in the ring with Inoue before, adding: “Respect to Erik Robles, I beat a proper champion there. He’s been out sparring [Naoya] Inoue, he beat some good fighters on his way.
“This is the start of a massive 2024.”
Promoter Frank Warren was delighted with his fighter’s display, noting the progress he had made from national, to continental, and now a world title.
He said: “What he does in the ring walks, and what he does in the ring, you look at British, Commonwealth, Europe and now this. Everything he’s done, and he’s done it in style, and that was a world-class finish, a world class performance.
“Think of the fight with Lee McGregor, which everyone was raving about. He’s done a job tonight, I can’t tell you how exciting that was - that was a brilliant performance.”
