Scott Quigg to use insider knowledge in Oscar Valdez showdown

Scott Quigg is ready to use insider knowledge to topple WBO featherweight champion Oscar Valdez when they go head-to-head in Carson.

Quigg, the former WBA super bantamweight champion, will get a showdown against Mexican Valdez at the StubHub Center on March 10.

Valdez will be making his fourth defence of the title against Quigg, who defeated Oleg Yefimovich in six rounds of their November clash in Monaco and is now working with trainer Freddie Roach in Los Angeles.

The pair will know all about the threats of their opponent, having spent time around each other in the build-up to previous fights.

Quigg intends to make the most of this championship shot, having lost out on a split decision to IBF super bantamweight champion Carl Frampton in a 2016 unification bout.

“I have a lot of respect for Oscar and his team. We’ve been in the gym together in the past, helping each other prepare for a fight. They are good people,” said Quigg, who won a 12-round title elimination bout against Simion Viorel.

“I’ve been in training for four weeks already and now I’ve just linked up with Freddie Roach to begin the last eight weeks of camp.

“This is a great opportunity for me, making my US debut, and I am confident on March 10 I will become world champion again.”

Valdez is taking nothing for granted when he takes on the Bury boxer, who is currently ranked number four by the WBA.

“I know that my world title defence against Scott Quigg will be a fun one for all the boxing fans because our styles combine perfectly to make a real war,” said Valdez.

“As usual, on March 10, I will leave it all in the ring at StubHub Center, to show everyone that I’m one of the best featherweights in the world.”
