Tom Curran is currently in Australia playing for Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League. The England international has been performing well for the franchise, but is set to miss four games of the BBL season after being hit with a suspension for “intimidation or attempted intimidation of an umpire, match referee or medical personnel whether by language or conduct [including gestures] during a match”.

England international Tom Curran has been handed a four-game suspension from the Big Bash League (BBL) for “intimidation or attempted intimidation of an umpire, match referee or medical personnel whether by language or conduct [including gestures] during a match”.
Curran was charged with a Level 3 offence under Cricket Australia's Code of Conduct following an incident prior to Sydney Sixers’ clash with Hobart Hurricanes.
The all-rounder was seen completing a practice run-up, which was in contravention of BBL playing conditions as only captains and head coaches are allowed on the playing surface prior to the start of the game.
The umpire told Curran not to step on the pitch, but footage emerged of him doing it a second time - on that occasion running directly towards the official.
A statement from Cricket Australia read: "The umpire took position next to the stumps, blocking Curran from approaching the pitch and gestured to Curran to move away from the pitch.
"Curran was seen in the footage gesturing to the umpire to move away from the pitch.
"Curran then attempted to perform a practice run-up and run at pace straight towards the umpire who stood in the bowling crease facing Curran. The umpire stepped to his right to avoid the risk of collision.”
The 28-year-old contested the charge, but was found guilty and handed four suspension points - meaning a ban of four games.
Curran is slated to miss BBL games against Adelaide Strikers (December 22), Melbourne Stars (December 26), Sydney Thunder (December 30) and Brisbane Heat (January 1).
The Sixers confirmed their intention to appeal, with team head Rachael Haynes saying: “Tom and the club maintain that Tom did not knowingly or intentionally intimidate a match official, and on legal advice, we will exercise our right to appeal the decision.
"We will support Tom during this period and look forward to him returning to the field."
