India thrash England to wrap up fifth Test in three days in Dharamsala and seal big overall series win

India thrashed England by an innings and 64 runs to wrap up the fifth Test in Dharamsala after just three days and secure a 4-1 overall series win.

Ravichandran Ashwin was among the headline-makers with his five wickets, as England collapsed to 195 all out in their second innings.

Among the highlights of an otherwise dismal day for the tourists included Jimmy Anderson's 700th Test wicket, and Shoaib Bashir's five wickets.

But what followed was bleak, as the tourists were left on 141-8, before Joe Root's 84 not out restored some element of respectability to the defeat.

After a pulsating win in Hyderabad in the first Test which allowed Brendon McCullum's side to dream, everything has seemingly unravelled from that point onwards.

Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah were at the crease as India began the day on 475-8, as Ben Stokes' men had the daunting task of cutting a deficit which was more than England's first-innings total.

The day began on a positive note as Anderson claimed his 700th Test wicket to dismiss Yadav, with the ball edged behind to Ben Foakes.

Foakes was then alert to dismiss Bumrah after some fine work behind the stumps, and India were all out for 477.

This left England with the challenge of eating into that huge India lead, one which became all the more challenging when Ben Duckett dismissed was by Ravichandran Ashwin in the first over.

With Zak Crawley then dismissed for a 16-ball duck, McCullum's side had already lost both of their opening batsmen at 21-2 before Ollie Pope and Jonny Bairstow followed to leave England on 92-4.

The hosts rattled through England's middle order, with captain Ben Stokes dismissed for just two off the bowling of Ashwin as the tourists' skipper continued his miserable run with the bat.

Foakes, Tom Hartley followed before Mark Wood went LBW, with England left on 141-8.

There was admirable resistance late on from Joe Root, as he progressed past his 61st Test half-century, but his knock - and the series - would end when he was caught by Bumrah off the bowling of Kuldeep.
