Tom Hartley experienced the highs and the lows during his Test debut appearance for England in the series against India last week. The spinner endured a tough first innings where he went through an expensive spell but bounced back in style to put on a match-winning performance to help England take a 1-0 lead in the series. Hartley is hopeful for a "big role" in the remainder of the tour.

England spinner Tom Hartley is hopeful that there will be "more respect on my name" after his match-winning performance against India in the first Test of the series.
England took a 1-0 lead in the five-Test tour after they recovered from falling behind by 190 runs in the first innings to fight back and win, with Hartley enjoying a memorable debut.
Hartley finished with figures of 7-62 in the second innings as the tourists completed a stunning 28-run triumph.
Hartley ended with the best haul by an England spinner on debut since 1933, and it was the first seven-wicket haul on debut since Jim Laker in 1948.
Speaking to BBC Sport, the 24-year-old said he hopes his display can lead to a "big role" in the series.
"To come out in the fourth innings and do what I did, hopefully they can put a bit more respect on my name and go forward from there," he said.
"Coming out here, I was just looking to get a game or a couple of games. I might now have a big role, but I'm more than ready for that. I want more of it."
Hartley endured a tough start to his debut after he was hit for six on his first delivery by India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal.
There was scepticism over Hartley's call-up given he had only played 20 first-class matches, and his performance on day one added to those concerns.
Hartley was expensive in his first spell with the ball on the first day, leaking 63 runs from nine overs.
However, the spinner claimed his first two Test wickets for England on the second day and then produced his remarkable seven-wicket haul in the second innings to put his side 1-0 up.
"I felt ready for it," Hartley added. "I know my ability on spinning wickets. I knew I could do well.
"I was so nervous that first day. I was so happy to bring a few runs to the team, hit a six, tick a few things off.
"Then it was frustration that I was the bowler getting picked on, I was thinking if this was going to be the story for the whole series.
"I've been hit for a lot of sixes in my career, so I don't let these things get on top of me. The background I've had is to not let yourself get down. I just want to be a fighter and throw some punches back."
Hartley will be hopeful of continuing his form when the second Test gets underway in Vizag on Friday.
