England were set to start their World Cup winter in the field against Sri Lanka A, after losing the toss at the SSC in Colombo.
Overnight rain delayed the start of England's first warm-up match by an hour, but only one over per side was as yet deducted from the full 100 on a cloudy day.
As announced on Thursday, England named Moeen Ali to open the batting with Alastair Cook - with Ian Bell at number three, and no place for Alex Hales.
They also included all three pace-bowling all-rounders Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes and Chris Jordan - with Steven Finn to lead the attack and no Harry Gurney.
