Jos Buttler says he 'would like to' carry on as England captain despite dismal World Cup campaign

Jos Buttler is hopeful he will be given the chance to carry on as the England captain and lead the side during next month's one-day and T20 Test series in the West Indies. England were knocked out of the Cricket World Cup after losing six of their opening seven matches in India in what was a disappointing defence of the title they won so brilliantly in 2019.

Jos Buttler insists he would like to continue as the England white-ball captain for the upcoming Test series in the West Indies despite a disappointing Cricket World Cup campaign.
England have crumbled to six defeats in eight in India, bringing a premature end to their defence of the World Cup they won at home in such thrilling fashion in 2019.
They face the West Indies next month for three one-day internationals and five T20 internationals and Buttler hopes to lead the side in the Caribbean.
Asked if he wanted to retain his position as captain after victory against Netherlands, Buttler said: “I'd like to. We can have some good conversations with [managing director of cricket, Rob Key] and the coach and make a plan for that tour.
“But, yes, I would like to.”
England bounced back from an opening defeat against New Zealand with a win over Bangladesh before a run of chastening performances ended their hopes of landing back-to-back World Cup crowns.
A shock loss to Afghanistan was followed by dismal batting displays against South Africa, Sri Lanka and India as England were bowled out for 170, 156 and 129 respectively.
Defeat to Australia put England officially out of their misery before a win against the Netherlands raised hopes of a top-eight finish in the group, which would qualify them for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Buttler’s batting display has raised eyebrows, with the skipper averaging just 13.87 across the eight matches and failing to make a single half-century. The 33-year-old acknowledged his own performances haven’t been up to scratch but hopes to bounce back quickly.
“You want to lead from the front and do that in your own performance,” he added.
“I'll stick to the stuff that's served me well over a long period of time when I've had these little runs of form and hopefully I'll come out the other side of it very soon.”
England face Pakistan in their final match and Buttler says it is “vital” to end the tournament on a high.
“It's a huge game for us, vital,” he continued. “We haven't performed the way we wanted to this whole trip, and we'd like to leave India putting in a proper performance.
“The Champions Trophy is something we're very focused on and determined to make sure we're there.”
