On home snow she picked up her first-ever World Cup win to match the achievement of compatriot Maxim Vylegzhanin who won the men's event earlier in the day. In the end the margin was comfortable for Tchekaleva who finished with a time of 44:16.0 15.6 seconds in front of second place Martine Ek Hagen of Norway and 22.9 ahead of Finlands Riitta_liissa Roponen.
Tchekaleva attacked midway through the race and skied alone to victory for the final half.
It is her first World Cup podium since Szklarska Poreba 2014 and she was delighted with the win.
"I tried to save energy in the classic part of the race. I just tried to stay with the front group but not work too hard," she said.
"When we switched to skating I felt that I had a lot of power so I went for the victory. It was really nice to win my first World Cup here in Russia."
