UCI Track Cycling World Championships: Jeffrey Hoogland dominates to win ninth time trial gold in Glasgow

Dutch rider Jeffrey Hoogland won his ninth time trial gold at the UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old was six bike lengths clear after the first lap and ended up posting an astonishing time of 58.222, beating Australia's Matthew Glaetzer who had made a national record time of 58.526.

Glaetzer, paired with Australian counterpart Thomas Cornish, came second and third respectively as they both posted a personal best.

The Netherlands won their maiden Madison gold in a 195-lap thriller to edge victory by just two points.

New Zealand, who finished three points behind the Dutch duo in third, crossed the line first but it was Jan-Willem van Schip and Theo Reinhardt who had the most points on the board - 37.

Great Britain’s team of Oliver Wood and Mark Stewart settled for silver.

Great Britain’s Neah Evans took an early lead in the women’s points race when she made a perfect start after 10 laps, as she eyed a second gold in 24 hours after winning the Madison gold with Elinor Barker on Monday night.

But she wouldn’t make the top three, with Belgium's Lotte Kopecky coming out on top with 39 points after 100 laps.

Kopecky had taken control of the race and nudged Evans off the top spot by the halfway point, with Australian Georgia Baker on their tails in third spot.

Kopecky, 27, worked hard to oust Baker in the final sprint, the latter finishing second with 31 points.

Evans couldn't hold on to the final podium spot as Japanese rider Tsuyaka Uchino managed a third-place finish with 14 points.

Elsewhere, Great Britain won gold in the Mixed B Team race. Neil Fachie and Elizabeth Jordan took the win alongside pilots Matt Rotherham and Amy Cole.

Earlier on there was a worrying incident when two of Italy's track racers crashed while riding on one of the centre’s cycle paths.

Simone Consonni and Francesco Lamon were the pair that took the hit from an E-bike, with the former reportedly suffering a suspected collarbone fracture.
