'What an absolute ride!' - Van Vleuten produces stunning win in World Championships

Annemiek van Vleuten has confirmed her final schedule as a professional cyclist ahead of her retirement at the end of this year.
Van Vleuten announced she would retire last year, going on to have an incredible season which included winning the Giro d’Italia Donne, Tour de France Femmes, Ceratizit Challenge by La Vuelta and a second world title.
The Movistar rider will race in all three Grand Tours, the World Championships and compete in all of the major one-day races, except Paris-Roubaix.
“I am clear I want to race both the Giro and the Tour again,” Van Vleuten said after the end of last season.
“It is something that I have already been talking about with my coach and with my team. I still love racing in Italy, and I want to ride one more Giro.
“It would be a first big block of competition from Flanders to La Vuelta, and a second block including Giro and Tour.”
Van Vleuten will begin her season at Setmana Ciclista Valenciana from February 16-19, before taking on the spring classics.
After that it is all about training and defending her three Grand Tour titles.
In a change to La Vuelta, it has been rebranded from Challenge by La Vuelta to La Vuelta Femenina, and will be the first of the Grand Tour races from May 1-7.
The Dutch National Championships is next on June 24, then the Giro d’Italia from June 30 to July 9 and the Tour de France Femmes from July 23-30.
Van Vleuten’s career will end in Glasgow at the UCI Cycling World Championships, where she will target a third time trial gold and a third road race title.
