Ciolek sprints to win

The German Omega-Pharma QuickStep rider Ciolek powered to the line ahead of Italian team-mate Matteo Trentin at the end of the 186km stage from Vilamoura to Tavira.

Australia's Heinrich Haussler (Garmin-Barracuda) took third place on the podium.

Haussler's fellow Aussie Richie Porte retained the lead in the general classification, the Sky rider enjoying a 12-second advantage over a pair of Portuguese riders, Movistar's Rui Costa and RadioShack's Tiago Machado.
