Pinot claims stage six of Criterium Dauphine, Froome extends overall lead

Chris Froome is on course to win the Criterium Dauphine for the third time in four years as he extended his overall lead after stage six.

Thibaut Pinot of FDJ won the stage in a sprint to the line against Romain Bardet after the two broke clear during the day.

Dan Martin was a distant third, over a minte down on the front two, with Froome just three seconds further back.

Richie Porte and Alberto Contador, Froome's only realistic rivals for overall victory, were 14 and eight seconds respectively behind the Englishman.

Froome now leads by over 20 seconds, but Sunday's final stage is a tough one with six categorised climbs.

Froome won the race in 2013 and 2015, and both times went on to win the Tour de France - an ominous omen indeed for those riders trying to take the Team Sky man's crown away from him.
