The 2024 Spring Classics season continues live on Eurosport and discovery+ with both men’s and women’s events at the legendary Belgian race of Gent-Wevelgem.
In the women’s race last year, torrential conditions caused carnage in the peloton but Marlen Reusser (SD Worx) was able to keep a cool head and solo away to victory.
In the men’s race it was a dominant performance from Visma-Lease a bike (formerly known as Jumbo-Visma). Christophe Laporte and Wout van Aert pulled away from the pack and in a remarkable show of sportsmanship Van Aert, the 2021 winner, sat up to allow Laporte to triumph after finishing second in 2022.
Laporte is back to defend his title, albeit without Van Aert, but there will be no Reusser, with Lotte Kopecky the star for SD Worx this year.
We look at everything you need to know about Gent-Wevelgem, including when the race takes place, how to watch on Eurosport and discovery+, the route and who is racing...

When is Gent-Wevelgem

Gent-Wevelgem will take place on Sunday March 24.

How to watch Gent-Wevelgem

Coverage of the men’s race will begin at 12:00 UK time on Eurosport and discovery+.
Coverage of the women’s race will begin at 15:00 UK time.

Who is riding at Gent-Wevelgem

On the men’s side Laporte is back as part of a Visma-Lease a Bike team that features Tiesj Benoot and Olav Kooij, the latter having a good start to the year having won stages at the UAE Tour and Paris-Nice.
The 2022 champion Biniam Girmay is there for Intermarche-Wanty, and Astana Qazaqstan are taking Mark Cavendish.
But all eyes are on Alpecin-Deceuninck who are headlined of course by Mathieu van der Poel. The Dutchman is fresh off a strong showing at Milano-Sanremo in his first real road foray of the season as well as a bumper new contract.
As for the women, the headline act is Kopecky and SD Worx who will be looking to win the race back-to-back, albeit with different riders.
Chloe Dygert and Zoe Backstedt will go for Canyon//SRAM Racing whilst former champion Elisa Balsamo will ride alongside Elisa Longo Borghini, Lucinda Brand and Lizzie Deignan in a very strong Lidl-Trek team.

What is the route for Gent-Wevelgem

As is tradition the men’s race will start from the Menin Gate in Ypres, a memorial to the victims of World War I, and end on Vanackerestraat in Wevelgem.
The 253.1km route will be 7km shorter than 2023 and the final 100km will see nine major climbs in a real test for the riders.
The women’s race will start in the same place and ends in Wevelgem after a race distance of 171.2km with seven climbs in total.
