No Tao, no Remco, but the Giro d’Italia goes on as the fight for the maglia rosa heads to Stage 12. Geraint Thomas and Primoz Roglic are separated by just two seconds in the general classification, but will be acutely aware of the dual hazards of crashing and Covid that have ruled out a number of their rivals, such as Geoghegan Hart and Evenepoel. So what is in store on Thursday?

'G is in a great position' - Rowe on Thomas

After two relatively simple stages – albeit the first in freezing rain – things step up a little on Stage 12 of the Giro d’Italia as we flirt with the mountains again.
The profile is not particularly challenging, however, so we can expect plenty of early action as our non-GC stars attempt to get in the day’s breakaway in the knowledge they may not be caught.
The main test is the Cat. 2 Colle Braida climb, a 9.8km climb with gradients above 7% that max out at 12%.
Still, the profile is unlikely to cause too much concern amongst the general classification hopefuls, with Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) lining up for his third day in the maglia rosa.
It’s the starter before the main course, which arrives with Friday’s five-star stage that features three Cat. 1 climbs.

How can I watch the Giro d'Italia on TV and live stream?

Every stage will be broadcast in its entirety on Eurosport 1, while you can watch ad-free on discovery+ and eurosport.com.
The UK coverage will be bookended by The Breakaway, presented by Orla Chennaoui, who has Dan Lloyd, Adam Blythe and Robbie McEwen for company.
Rob Hatch, Sean Kelly, Lloyd and Blythe will be in the commentary box, with Jens Voigt and Alberto Contador doing their thing on the back of a motorbike.

What time does Stage 12 of the Giro d'Italia start?

Stage 12 coverage will begin at 11:00 UK time on Thursday, May 18.
