Mondory takes stage

Lloyd Mondory sprinted to victory in the second stage of the Etoile de Besseges, beating AG2R team-mate Anthony Ravard to the line.

The Frenchman won his first stage since 2008 on the 149km stage between Nimes and Saint-Ambroix.

“It’s great," he said afterwards. "This is a victory so unexpected that I did not even have time to raise my arms."

Aldo Ilesic of Slovenia scooped third place.

Ravard, runner-up on the day, was consoled by taking the overall lead from Belarusian Yauheni Hutarovych in the five-stage event.

Mondory is hot on his heels, just two seconds back, as is Hutarovich.

Stage three takes the riders from Saint-Victor-la-Coste to Laudun.
